Senate (Academic Board)
The Senate is the academic authority of Doctoral College, whose role is to oversee the teaching and research of the College, be responsible for academic quality and standards and for the admission and regulation of students, subject to confirmation by the Board of Governors.
The Senate meets four times during each academic year, in October, December, March and June, normally in Senate House and on Wednesday afternoons.
Typically, its agendas include a presentation and report by the Dean and CEO, as well as discussion on key aspects of the reports of Senate committees, such as the Senate Education Committee, Senate Research and Innovation Committee and Senate Research Ethics Committee.
Senate also receives for information a report from the Board of Governors.
Chaired by the Dean and CEO, Senate’s membership is drawn from within the College, and staff members include:
- Lead Academics
- Heads of Departments
- Directors of Specialist Areas
- Elected staff representatives
- Students are represented by students whom that are normally Students’ Union Officers.
